"I'm sorry Brambleclaw, but it's true. I'm not their mother." The words pierced through Brambleclaw's heart when they sunk in. They weren't Squirrelflight's kits. That meant they weren't his. He had no kits. And he no longer had a mate.

I'm holding on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground

And I'm hearing what you say, but I just can't make a sound

He remembered when Squirrelflight announced she was having kits. He had been so happy. Once, she had gone herb-gathering with Leafpool, and went into labor while they were out. She came home with three kits. Figures. They were Leafpool's.

You tell me that you need me, then you go and cut me down

But wait!

You tell me that your sorry, didn't think I'd turn around

Oh well. I wouldn't ever forgive Squirrelflight. I could never look at Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, or Lionblaze the same, knowing I cheated them. No matter how much she apologized.

But its too late to apologize, its too late

I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late

I would do anything for Squirrelflight. I would take a death blow for her. Leap into a lake so deep you couldn't see the bottom to save her. Not anymore. Now she's jsut an ordinary cat.

I'd take another chance, take a fall, take a shot, for you

And I need you like a heart needs a beat, but it's nothing new.

I loved you with a fire red, now its turning blue

How could Squirrelflight do this to him? Did she not trust him enough to tell him that they were Leafpool's? Did she think he would tell Firestar?

And you say, your sorry like an angel, heaven let me think was you

But I'm affraid

'But its too late to apologize, its too late'

'I said it's too late to apologize, it's too late'

Whatever. He didn't need Squirrelflight to make him happy. She didn't trust him; he wouldn't trust her.

I said it too late to apologize, it's too late

I said it's too late to apologize, yeah

'I'm holding on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground'
